Memo #1: Build a LinkedIn-powered HR network
Connect HR people to your LinkedIn account, especially when jobhunting. While Facebook is for real time casual overflow of trains of thought and Twitter is for witty updates, LinkedIn is for professional networking. It is the go-to site for HR practitioners. Use LinkedIn's search function to look for people in your target companies. Personalize your invitation letter. These online contacts will prove very useful in terms of direct communication, i.e. sending your application to the HR person herself/himself, thus bypassing barriers such as generic email accounts that can get choked with the barrage of applicants' resumes.
